DOES THIS HELP® WHAT A SAINT KNOWS ABOUT AMERICAN HISTORY

...And now, ye remember that I said unto you: Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of things which are in heaven above, or which are in the earth beneath, or which are in the water under the earth.

And again: Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them; for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquities of the fathers upon the children, unto the third and fourth generations of them that hate me;

And showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments.

Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work;

But the seventh day, the sabbath of the Lord thy God, thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy man-servant, nor thy maid-servant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates;

For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is; wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Honor thy father and thy mother, that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.

Thou shalt not kill.

Thou shalt not commit adultery. Thou shalt not steal.

Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.

Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife, nor his man-servant, nor his maid-servant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor anything that is thy neighbor's.

And it came to pass that after Abinadi had made an end of these sayings that he said unto them: Have ye taught this people that they should observe to do all these things for to keep these commandments?

I say unto you, Nay; for if ye had, the Lord would not have caused me to come forth and to prophesy evil concerning this people.

And now ye have said that salvation cometh by the law of Moses. I say unto you that it is expedient that ye should keep the law of Moses as yet; but I say unto you, that the time shall come when it shall no more be expedient to keep the law of Moses.

And moreover, I say unto you, that salvation doth not come by the law alone; and were it not for the atonement, which God himself shall make for the sins and iniquities of his people, that they must unavoidably perish, notwithstanding the law of Moses.

~BOOK OF MORMON, MOSIAH 13:12-28

And to Oliver Cowdery, who was also Called of God, an Apostle of Jesus Christ, to be the Second Elder of this Church, and Ordained under his Hand;

And this according to the grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, to whom be all glory, both now and forever. Amen.

#1SAINTSCODE We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.

#2SAINTSCODE We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam’s transgression.

#3SAINTSCODE We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.

#4SAINTSCODE We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.

#5SAINTSCODE We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.

#6SAINTSCODE We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.

#7SAINTSCODE We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth.

#8SAINTSCODE We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.

#9SAINTSCODE We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.

#10SAINTSCODE We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.

#11SAINTSCODE We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.

#12SAINTSCODE We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.

#13SAINTSCODE We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul — We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.

Judgment, Justice, and Integrity

Mercy over Judgment — Living Boundaries, Choices, and Truth

Introduction

Brothers and sisters, we often tiptoe around judgment, justice, and the ways we treat one another when our personal choices look different. I share my story not to justify myself, but to testify that the Lord sees the difference between destruction and discernment. Christ Himself lived under the unfair judgment of others—yet He never placed Himself as Judge during His ministry. His mission was mercy, not condemnation.

Boundaries

God gave us boundaries not to cage us, but to protect our divine potential. Boundaries are sacred lines. When neighbors trespass or others disrespect our space, it is not just land they invade but the divine order God has set. Christ respected boundaries too, walking away when crowds sought to stone Him, showing us that protecting life and dignity is not sin but wisdom.

“Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.” (Proverbs 22:28)

Choices and Accountability

Every choice is a seed, every seed grows into consequence. “Men are free… to choose liberty and eternal life… or to choose captivity and death.” (2 Nephi 2:27). Accountability is not punishment; it is the blessing of seeing the ripple of our choices. Even Christ submitted to accountability—not for His sins, but for ours—bearing the weight of choice itself in Gethsemane.

Divine Nature

Our true identity is not what others label us, but what God declares: sons and daughters of the Almighty. Our body is a temple, and our soul is His light. Divine nature means living aligned with the Spirit, even when misunderstood or judged harshly. Jesus was misjudged by Pharisees, by rulers, by crowds—yet His divine nature shone undimmed. So too with us—no false judgment can erase what God has declared true.

“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid.” (Matthew 5:14)

Good Works

“Faith without works is dead.” (James 2:26). It is not abstinence or indulgence alone that defines us, but our works: feeding, forgiving, serving, loving. Jesus was condemned by the judgment of men for healing on the Sabbath, yet His good works testified louder than any accusation. The Word of Wisdom should never overshadow “the weightier matters of the law: judgment, mercy, and faith.” (Matthew 23:23).

Part of those weightier matters is consecrated giving—supporting the work that lifts, feeds, teaches, and heals. The Lord invites: “Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse… and prove me now herewith… if I will not open you the windows of heaven.” (Malachi 3:10). And Paul reminds us to give “not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.” (2 Corinthians 9:7). Wisdom, Knowledge, and Power

Wisdom is knowledge lived. Knowledge without intent is dust; wisdom is knowledge applied with love. “The glory of God is intelligence, or, in other words, light and truth.” (D&C 93:36). Our choices put things in motion like spiritual equations. Action with intent is co-creation with God. Even Christ, the all-wise, said: “My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.” (John 7:16) — showing that true power flows from alignment with the Father, not self-assertion.

Christ and Judgment

Jesus Christ did not make Himself a Judge in mortality. He said plainly: “I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.” (John 12:47). It was the judgment of others that condemned Him—the accusations of the Pharisees, the envy of rulers, the voices of the crowd. Their judgment crucified Him, but their judgment was not God’s.

Final judgment is reserved for the last day, committed by the Father to the Son: “For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son.” (John 5:22). Until then, our calling is not to sit in Christ’s seat, but to walk in His footsteps. To condemn another is to take upon ourselves an authority not given to us. Judgment Day belongs to God alone.

“Judge not, that ye be not judged.” (Matthew 7:1)
“I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.” (John 12:47)
“All judgment is committed unto the Son.” (John 5:22)

Judged by Men Unjust Condemnation

Religious and political leaders, stirred by envy and fear, judge and condemn Him. Human judgment nails Him to the cross.

Matthew 26–27 • Mark 15 • Luke 23 • John 18–19

Resurrection & Exaltation All Power Given

The Father glorifies the Son. Authority and keys are affirmed; mercy triumphs over death.

Matthew 28:18 • Philippians 2:9–11

Judge at the Last Day Divine Prerogative

Final judgment is God’s, committed to Christ. Until that day, disciples are commanded to refrain from condemning one another and to live mercy.

John 5:22 • Acts 17:31 • Matthew 7:1

Closing Testimony

Boundaries protect us. Choices define us. Accountability shapes us. Divine nature reminds us. Good works prove us. Wisdom and knowledge become power when lived with intent. And judgment belongs not to us, but to Christ alone.

Let us remember: it was human judgment that condemned Christ, but divine mercy that saved us. As disciples, our place is not at the bench of judgment but at the foot of the cross—living mercy, extending grace, and walking in integrity.

In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
